Jennifer Garant’s artistic career began at the age of three with “closet drawing” – that is, sketching on her closet walls with black markers. These initial endeavors were inspired by her mother, about whom Jennifer says, “Everything that she touched she transformed into something of beauty.” Jokingly, Jennifer states that “the writing was on the wall” as far as her career path. Jennifer’s art soon came out of the closet with the help of paper and other supplies from her parents. In second grade she won her first poster competition, which was just the beginning of her career as an award-winning artist. Born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, Jennifer began her formal art education in 1977 at the College of Marin near San Francisco, then continued her studies at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology in Calgary, Alberta. In 1986 she won the Expo ’86 Water Colour Competition held during the 1986 World Exposition in Vancouver. Jennifer’s work has been commissioned by collectors around the world, from public and private organizations to corporations and celebrities, and has been shown and collected by galleries throughout the U.S. and Canada. Jennifer’s work expresses the exuberance and joy found in a life lived to the fullest. “Having fun and enjoying,” says Jennifer, “is as simple as making the decision.” Her favourite quote is “Go big or go home.” She took this saying to heart when she took on the task of creating the largest mural in North America for Vancouver General Hospital, which consisted of twenty-one panels, each fourteen feet high and thirty-six feet long. Jennifer worked alone for six months forty feet above the ground, with only the aid of a crew to shift the swinging scaffold. Other murals this versatile artist has completed can be seen on the walls of restaurants and private residences throughout Vancouver, Victoria, and Whistler, British Columbia. As well as selling her originals with a crème de la crème of fine art dealers and galleries, Jennifer also works with the publishing company Art IN Motion who publish and market her images to 50 countries and also license to a multitude of quality product manufacturers who use her images to enhance their products. |
